St Nicholas Church
Laindon with Dunton
Welcome
Past. Present. Future.

Past
A church has stood at the top of Church Hill since the times of the Normans; for over seven hundred years, St. Nicholas has been a Christian landmark seen from miles away in all directions.
The present church was built in the 13th century. We can be sure it is at least that ancient, as the 1st recorded Rector, one Richard de List, began at St Nicholas in 1254.The oldest part of the church is the nave, dating back more than seven centuries.
In the 14th century, both the chancel and south aisle were constructed, and as the centuries rolled by, generations of Christians treasured and protected this holy place.
Church records of weddings go back to the 1500’s, and the historical importance of the church is recognised in its Grade 1 listed building status.
Come and explore this holy place, in the footsteps of countless believers through the centuries.
Present
St Nicholas Church is renewing its vision and purpose. We believe that we are not just a building to visit on Sunday.
We are children of God, called by Christ to live in the power of the Holy Spirit, to fulfil the plans of God. We are Christians and so we follow him as his disciples.

Future
St Nicholas is putting out new shoots, growing outwards into the community, em- powered by the Holy Spirit.
We have great ambitions for our church…Building a dynamic musical ministry, open to new ideas while holding on to traditions, the best of both worlds in praise and prayer. Bring your talent!
Developing counselling and bereavement support. Being a haven for the lonely, the left out, the left behind – all are welcome in the family of God.
Providing growing support to young families. Bringing the life-changing news of Jesus to all.
We need people’s help to do all of this.
Come and join us.
